When Should We Harvest Ylang Ylang?

July 14, 2011
Caption Goes here
The beautiful, fragrant, and delicate ylang ylang flower
Only if you grow, plant, harvest, and understand what is supposed to be in a plant can you produce the finest quality of oil with all its constituents. Anybody can print a GC (gas chromatograph), but to truly know the quality of oil, you must also understand how a GC and an MS (mass spectrometer) are operated and how to identify the compounds and the percentages of them.
However, there is more to it than that. You must know the best time of day to pick the leaves or flowers or harvest the entire plant from the field. In other words, you must know the best time of the day to harvest, when the Brix measurement is the highest, which measures the glucose levels in the plant, to determine the best time to extract for the greatest quantity of essential oil.
For example, the best time to pick ylang ylang flowers, when the Brix measurement is the highest, is from midnight to 4 in the morning. But it is hard to get people to pick during that time. So we pick from daylight until 10 a.m., because we have found that the oil volume is maintained until about 10 o’clock, and then we will start losing some of the oil as it leaves the flowers and returns to the branches.
That is the reason that when we smell the flowers in the afternoon, the fragrance won’t be as intense, because the oil has gone back into the tree during the heat of the day to protect the tree from dehydration. Then at night as the temperature cools, the oil comes back up into the flower. It is very, very interesting to see how the tree preserves itself.

Getting Prepared

June 23, 2011

Gary is exploring new sources of aromatic plants in Ecuador and Peru.
I have talked about the possible loss of lavender for the last seven years as I have watched the signs of this on-coming crisis. I have wished that I would be wrong or that something would change this growing problem, but it has only snowballed into a downhill disaster.
We will continue to see more oil crops fail for various reasons. For example, today the world is without rosewood oil because Brazil, the main world source, has ceased to produce and export it. I will soon have a report on Young Living’s plans for this oil.
For the last several years, we have become concerned that sandalwood from Indonesia and India will become nonexistent and are concerned that at any time the world could be cut off from its supply.
Many other oils could also come to a production end for many reasons. Each year more and more farmers are selling their farms or just going out of business. The children from many generations of oil producers are turning away from family traditions and entering the world of business and technology. As the pure oil supply decreases, the number of synthetic and adulterated oils will increase.
Young Living is constantly in a state of preparation as we expand our fields and increase our own production. I am traveling and exploring as I look for the opportunity to buy more farmland and contract with farmers who can grow for us. The discoveries are immense, and with continued planning and preparation, we will be able to meet the demand of our growing company.

Finding Strength and Comfort through Essential Oils

July 25, 2011

This week we have a very special and personal post from Tracy Griffiths, a member of our Integrated Health Professionals Council (IHPC). Each month our IHPC members submit a topic of their choosing; Tracy felt her story should be shared to give hope to others struggling with similar issues. We feel our readers will benefit from her unique story and be inspired by the courage she demonstrated during a deeply personal and painful experience:
“A few weeks ago my father passed away. He was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer about seven months ago, and he endured very aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatments. After his condition worsened, he decided to reach out to Hospice and let go.
During his painful journey, I spent as much time as possible with him. I applied essential oils on his feet and legs, gave him Reiki treatments, helped him get in more comfortable positions, and spent quiet time with him. When we spoke, we expressed our love and gratitude for each other. We also slipped in a few jokes here and there. My father’s sense of humor was outstanding throughout his ordeal with cancer.
The essential oils I used most with him were frankincense, Valor®, Peace & Calming®, lavender, PanAway®, peppermint and Deep ReliefRoll-On. I chose these oils for their relieving and calming properties. I would apply them to his feet, anywhere he was uncomfortable, and on his pillowcase so he could easily inhale them while he rested in bed. I can honestly say that every time I put the oils on him, he either told me or showed me that he got a little and sometimes a lot of relief from what he was feeling. He would also become less fidgety and feel calmer and more relaxed.
A few hours before my dad passed, the Hospice home caregiver and I gave him a sponge bath with warm water infused with Peace & Calming. Afterwards I anointed his whole body with frankincense. I believe these essential oils helped me remain calm and strong throughout this difficult process.
Fortunately, my whole family was with him when he died, and just moments before he took that last breath, he opened his eyes and looked at each one of us indicating that he knew we were there and that he loved us.
If you find yourself in difficult situations, may I suggest surrounding yourself with supportive friends and family, taking time to grieve, meditating and practicing restorative yoga, and, of course, using essential oils to help bring peace and calming as you go through this rite of passage.”
-Tracy Griffiths, RPP, RPE
We’re grateful to Tracy for her eloquent words and inspiring story. If Young Living’s essential oils have in someway touched your life or eased your burden, we hope you’ll feel comfortable sharing your experiences with the YL family.

The Power of Scent

July 19, 2011

Do you know that smell can trigger memories and bring the memories back? You have experienced familiar smells, like your grandma’s bread baking or freshly cut grass. When you first smelled these kinds of aromas, your brain created new associations from the smell and the experience. It automatically attaches the positive or negative emotion you are feeling at the time of the smell. So, in the future when you experience the smell again, you also experience the positive or negative emotion associated with that smell. Aromatherapy—the use of aromatic plants for wellness—acts in a similar way. An aromatic plant oil is breathed in and can trigger the sense of an emotion. Emotions such sadness, grief, or anger can be released and replaced with positive emotions such as joy, comfort, peace, and calmness.

Now for some practical uses of Young Living’s therapeutic-grade essential oils. Here are a few simple steps you can use with Release™ and Joy™ oil blends to rid yourself of unwanted emotions and replace them with desirable ones:
1.Place a few drops of Release over the liver and hold it as you feel heat release and emotions calm.
2.Add a few drops of Joy to your bath water to uplift your mood before you start the day.
3.Diffuse Release for a time then Joy throughout the house to move stale air.
4.When negative emotions try to creep back, apply Release to the heart.
5.Put Joy on the crown of the head to invigorate, enhance, and create positive emotions.

In the morning, when you pop out of bed, start the day right by grabbing Joy essential oil blend to empower you to take on the challenges of the day. In your first waking moments, prepare your body for the day both emotionally and spirituality. The right combination of oils can really help your day go smoothly. At night use Release to clear and let go of any negative experiences you had during the day, then sleep well until you start another morning with Joy.

Peace be with you,

Essential Oil Introductions

July 15, 2011
I’m excited to join the Young Living family as one of the new product marketing managers. Even though I’ve only been with the company a short time, my family and I have had some amazing experiences with essential oils. I want to share with you a few that I hope you’ll find useful.
To start off, I have an amazing wife and together we claim three rambunctious children ranging in age from 5 to 1, with another expected in November. We recently attended a family reunion, camping in the northern part of Utah (by the way, for those of you with three small children and one pregnant wife, I suggest you avoid camping or travel in general). My plan was to test some of the various uses I had heard about for the oils. My camping experiences included: burning my hand on the Dutch oven, a minor sunburn, mosquito attacks, bug bites, the overpowering smell of campfire, and attempting to clean pans coated with burned food. Luckily my Young Living coworkers had given me some advice about using the oils that came in quite handy:
After a little trial and error, here is an overview of my experience:
By the end of the trip I was no longer a novice and my family members were asking where my essential oil was. I’m sure this is some most of you experience on a regular basis!
I am excited for future introductions to Young Living’s amazing products. I hope you’ll leave a comment and share what your “introduction” experience with essential oils was. I’m sure there is a lot we can learn from each other’s experiences.

The Danger is in the Drug Itself

P.H.I. Team News

The dangers of prescription drugs are intrinsic to the drugs themselves. No matter how careful the physician is in prescribing and how compliant the patient is in following doctor's orders, even then deaths and damages occur. In fact, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, more than 100,000 Americans die every year, not from illegal drugs, not from drug overdoses, not from over-the-counter drugs, and not from drug abuses, but from properly prescribed, properly taken prescriptions.
In this country, more people die from doctor's prescriptions every ten days than were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  Why is this so? Why do allopathic drugs always have undesirable effects while one can find healing with natural products, such as essential oils, with no undesirable effects?   Here is why.
Why Companies Deliberately Sell Dangerous Products
It is illegal to patent any natural product. The way to big profits in the medicine industry is to create an unnatural substance that never before existed in nature, then patent it, and obtain a monopoly. Hence, the molecules of pharmaceutical drugs are all strange to the human body. In all of the history of humankind, such molecules were never encountered or taken into any human body.
Hence, the body does not easily metabolize them. God never made your body to accept and deal with these chemicals and antibiotics.
They have found traces of prescription drugs in bodies that were taken in childhood, decades ago.
On the other hand, natural molecules, such as those found in essential oils, are easily metabolized by the body. In fact, your body was created to handle them. When an essential oil molecule finds the receptor sites it was designed to fit and conveys its information to the cell, it then goes on its way to the liver and the kidneys and moves out of the body. Its benefits have been conveyed and its job is complete.
By contrast, the unnatural molecules of man-made drugs attach themselves to various tissues, disrupting normal function for years while the body tries to figure out what to do with them. Meanwhile, they wreak mischief with our bodily functions and even our minds.
Drugs vs. Oils
Drugs and oils work in opposite ways:
Drugs toxify. Oils detoxify.
Drugs clog and confuse receptor sites. Oils clean receptor sites.
Drugs depress the immune system. Oils strengthen the immune system.
Antibiotics attack bacteria indiscriminately, killing both the good and the bad.  Oils attack only the harmful bacteria, allowing our body's friendly flora to flourish.
Drugs are designed to send misinformation to cells or to block certain receptor sites in order to trick the body into giving up symptoms.
Drugs never deal with the actual causes of disease. They aren't designed for that purpose. While they may give prompt relief for certain uncomfortable symptoms, because of their strange, unnatural design, they will always disrupt certain other bodily functions. Thus you always have some side effects.
Oil molecules send information to cells and cleanse receptor sites so that they bring your body back to natural function.
Oils are balancing to the body. Drugs are unbalancing to the body. Oils address the causes of disease at a cellular level by deleting misinformation and reprogramming correct information so that cells function properly and in harmony with one another. With drugs, misinformation is fed into the cells so that some temporary relief may be obtained, but there is never any true healing. Drugs only trade one kind of disease for another.
Because essential oils properly applied always work toward the restoration of proper bodily function, they do not cause undesirable side effects. They are feeding the body with truth. Drugs feed the body with lies. While no amount of truth can contradict itself, it doesn't take many lies before contradictions occur and the body suffers ill effects.
Sixteen Doctors Speak Out
Not all physicians are caught up in the idea that the only good medicines are ones that can also be harmful. Here are some comments by physicians, themselves, on the practice of medicine:
"The cause of most disease is in the poisonous drugs physicians superstitiously give in order to effect a cure." Charles E. Page, M.D.
"Medicines are of subordinate importance because of their very nature, they can only work symptomatically." Hans Kusche, M.D.
"The person who takes medicine must recover twice, once from the disease and once from the medicine." William Osler, M.D.
"If all the medicine in the world were thrown into the sea, it would be bad for the fish and good for humanity"  O.W. Holmes, M.D. (Prof. of Med. Harvard University)
"Drug medication consists in employing, as remedies for disease, those things which produce disease in well persons.  Its materia medica is simply a lot of drugs or chemicals or dye-stuffs -- in a word, poisons. All are incompatible with vital matter; and all produce disease when brought in contact in any manner with the living -- all are poisons."  R.T. TraIl, M.D., (lecture to members of Congress and the medical profession, Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.)
"Every drug increases and complicates the patient's condition."   Robert Henderson, M.D.
"The greatest part of all chronic disease is created by the suppression of acute disease by drug poisoning."  Henry Lindlahr, M.D.
"Every educated physician knows that most diseases are not appreciably helped by medicine."  Richard C. Cabot, M.D. (Mass. Gen. Hospital)
"Medicine is only palliative, for back of disease lies the cause, and this cause no drug can reach."  Wier Mitchel, M.D.
"Medical practice has neither philosophy nor common sense to recommend it. In sickness, the body is already loaded with impurities. By taking drug - medicines more impurities are added. Thereby, the case is further embarrassed and harder to cure." Elmer Lee, M.D., Past Vice President, Academy of Medicine.
"Our figures show approximately four and one half million hospital admissions annually due to the adverse reactions to drugs. Further, the average hospital patient has as much as thirty percent chance, depending how long he is in, of doubling his stay due to adverse drug reactions." Milton Silverman, ME.DO. (Professor of Pharmacology, University of California)
"What hope is there for medical science to ever become a true science when the entire structure of medical knowledge is built around the idea that there is an entity called disease which can be expelled when the right drug is found?" John HE. Tilden, ME.DO.
"We are prone to thinking of drug abuse in terms of the male population and illicit drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and marijuana. It may surprise you to learn that a greater problem exists with millions of women dependent on legal prescription drugs." Robert Mendelssohn, ME.DO (author of book, "Confessions of a Medical Heretic.)
"Why would a patient swallow a poison because he is ill, or take that which would make a well man sick."  I.IF. Keble, ME.DO.
"Drugs never cure disease. They merely hush the voice of nature's protest, and pull down the danger signals she erects along the pathway of transgression. Any poison taken into the system has to be reckoned with later on even though it palliates present symptoms. Pain may disappear, but the patient is left in a worse condition, though unconscious of it at the time."  Daniel. HE. Kress, ME.DO.
"The necessity of teaching mankind not to take drugs and medicines, is a duty incumbent upon all who know their uncertainty and injurious effects; and the time is not far distant when the drug system will be abandoned." Charles Ambusher, ME. DO.
Conclusion
So there you have it, -- why oils heal and drugs don't. Let's hope Dr. Ambusher is right, -- that "the time is not far distant when the drug system will be abandoned." Pharmaceutical companies and their physician drug dealers could market and sell natural products with genuine healing capabilities, but most won't. There isn't any money in it.
In my opinion, changing the medical system toward more natural and spiritual forms of healing is impossible. The system can't change. It must be replaced. Those of you who have opted out of the system in favor of essential oils and their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits are among the pioneers who are replacing the system.
And for those of you who have taken prescriptions drugs over long periods of time, essential oils are your best friend, because they can cleanse the residues of these drugs from your system once and for all, and help restore your body back to its natural healthy state.

Better Than Skin Deep

July 12, 2011

While attending Young Living’s recent Ireland Incentive Trip, a friend showed me a reddened area on her skin. The area had been bothering her for a while and even after using many wonderful essential, it was still there.
When I’m at a loss, I trust the Creator of all life. So I quieted down my mental chatter and Mineral Essence™ simply popped into mind. Minerals! That was the key!
According to Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling, “You can trace . . . every ailment to your minerals deficiency.” Young Living’s Mineral Essence is a balanced, full-spectrum ionic mineral complex that is enhanced with essential oils. Ionic minerals are the most fully and quickly absorbed form of minerals available.
Absorption through the gastrointestinal tract to a specific area may be difficult. However, Mineral Essence can quickly pass through the skin and feed the cells in the area where it is applied. And besides helping the skin’s surface layer achieve mineral balance, trace minerals carry energy because of their electric charge. Thus, they help energize the skin.
Because the midbrain receives visual, auditory, and tactile information, the skin is considered a relay to the brain. What if we were to apply this precious blend of minerals directly to the area? What could be achieved?
To help answer this question and address my friend’s issue, we decided on a layer of Mineral Essence and three drops of R.C. essential oil blend. The next morning she showed me her skin and the skin looked as if nothing had ever been there!
Mineral Essence is very necessary in today’s world. Mindful to continue to take it internally, I have also applied it to my “morning stiff low back.” I applied five drops of Mineral Essence and as it was applied, the stiffness left. For total relief I also applied Deep Relief™ Roll-On. That was the first time I could sit for hours at a computer and walk away comfortable, body completely pain free. I now do this as a daily practice.
Every day with help from God, we find new and wonderful uses for these gifts of health and well-being.

This is what is being sold on the market!

Some people's experiences with cheap Lavender:

1.     One lady's daughter had a pretty good sunburn. The mother put lavender on her because she heard it was soothing for burns and it intensified the burns to 3rd degree burns. Well guess what, she sued Young Living. Then the truth came out that she had bought it from a health food store. It was not Young Living's. Needless to say, she lost the case.

2.     Yesterday a co-worker got mixed up with a large grinder here at work. It peeled the skin off three of his fingers; one finger nail was ground clear through. I called Delene (my wife) and had her bring the lavender over. He wasn't sure he wanted to put it on because it might burn. I told him, that if anything, it would take the burn out of the burn. We applied it and it really helped. The pain was mostly gone and the stiffness went out of it. I applied the lavender about once an hour and as he was going home offered him the bottle. His response was, that's ok, we have some at home. I explained to him about the training I had, and how we were warned about some of the "cheap" lavenders and what they did to burns. He assured me that he had "good" stuff and left.

This morning, as soon as he got here, he looked me up. Seems like his "lavender" isn't the good stuff. He said that when he put it on, it about set his hand on fire.
He has to fly out to Washington State tomorrow and says he is going to stop at the farm on the way and get some "good" lavender.  Keith
3.     One woman, who had heard of the ability of lavender oil to sooth burns, used lavender oil from a local health food store when she spilled boiling water on her arm. The pain intensified and the burn worsened, so she later complained that lavender oil was worthless for soothing burns. When her "lavender" oil was analyzed, it turned out to be lavendin, a hybrid lavender that is chemically very different from pure Lavendula Angustifolia. Lavendin contains high levels of camphor (12-18%) and can itself burn the skin, which intensified her burn. The Lavendula Angustifolia contains virtually no camphor and has a burn soothing agent which is not found in lavendin.
I hope this helps to explain the importance of having pure therapeutic grade essential oil for your family because you could get a great reaction--one that you do not want.
Also, 85% peppermint is made up of corn mint, not true peppermint. Perfumeries and flavoring companies were there long before Aromatherapy came along. This is why it is so important to have knowledge so you can teach others.
Primrose said that they don't like to call it adulterated. Instead, they call it "adjusted". When she goes and gets the oils for Gary, she goes right to the source and makes sure it is the best, at Young Living request, and if it's not the best, she WILL NOT buy it. She will not look at the GC's and take their word for it. She said she needs to know how it is grown, distilled, etc. She said if other companies were like Young Living, it would "bring aromatherapy forward".

Dr. Minke said that a lady had used chamomile on her son and it burnt his skin. Chamomile? It's very soothing. She had bought $300 worth of oils from the health food store, and when Dr. Minke gave her Young Living oil she didn't use them again after she learned the difference from Dr. Minke. In the health food store you can buy oil for the quarter of the cost of Young Living Therapeutic Grade oil (YLTG)--the wonders of chemistry.
Dr. Stewart said that he gave a naturopath some Valor and he said, I've already tried that and he got mad and told him to get out. Dr. Stewart gave him the bottle anyway and left. Later he called Dr. Stewart and said that he had put the Valor on a patient, left the room, came back to adjust him, and he had already adjusted. He signed up.

These are some of the areas Gary has traveled to to make sure we have the best. This is the frankincense trail that Gary has made into a movie, which was shown at the 2010 convention. The documentation of the Frankincense trail has never been done before. A National Geographic photographer saw all of Gary's camels and asked how he got all those camels because he had been trying for 25 years and couldn't get them. Gary had 30 camels, packs and saddles in three hours. These are just a few pictures Gary had taken on the Frankincense Trail.
This picture to the left, is of a beautiful lady carrying a baskets of frankincense resin.

KEEPING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM FIT!

There are many preventive measures that we can take to have a healthy, strong, immune system. Of course, one of the measures we can take is to be sure to get an adequate amount of exercise. A brisk walk, stair climbing, aerobic exercise, swimming, and other forms of exercise that you personally love will not only help to build up your immune system, but give us the fit body we all strive to get or maintain.
Exercise adds strength to the body's immune system along with being sure to get adequate rest. Stress-Free Summer with Young Living’s Essential 7

June 8, 2011

With summer comes swimming, barbeques, and camping. We look forward to hitting the road and soaking in every hour of daylight we can. But as you get out you may also encounter screaming kids, dirt, bug, and sunburns. Don’t let these issues spoil your plans or stress you out! Follow these fun, fast steps with Young Living’s Essential 7 kit and you will be off to enjoy the summer fun.
  1. Joy™: Take the top off of a bottle of Joy essential oil blend and let everyone (including the driver) smell this wonderful scent that will calm any fighting, relieve tension, and uplift everyone as you travel.
  1. Lavender: Lavender is a great essential oil for mom, dad, or anyone else who has tension from a long drive or rigorous activities. Apply to the back of the head or forehead and feel the stress release. If you get overheated, add a few drops to V-6™ Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex and apply it to your skin.
  2. Peppermint: Put a drop of peppermint essential oil in water to cool down on a hot day, relieve tension, and refresh the body, mind, and spirit.
  3. Lemon: Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to a rag and wipe off outdoor tables to get rid of germs that may be hiding in the wood.
  4. Peace & Calming®: Apply Peace & Calming essential oil blend to everyone’s feet at the end of a long ride. This blend calms the system and helps everyone sleep through the night.
  5. PanAway®: Rub PanAway essential oil blend over the shoulders and back to release tight, sore muscles after sitting for a long day’s travel or after rugged, outdoor activities.
  6. Purification®: Pull back the sheets at the motel or campsite and sprinkle Purification essential oil blend over the mattresses to create a clean area to sleep. This blend will kill germs and repel insects that may have made their home in the mattress.
Use these tips with your Essential 7 kit to prepare you and your family for the perfect summer trip.
