Finding Strength and Comfort through Essential Oils

July 25, 2011

This week we have a very special and personal post from Tracy Griffiths, a member of our Integrated Health Professionals Council (IHPC). Each month our IHPC members submit a topic of their choosing; Tracy felt her story should be shared to give hope to others struggling with similar issues. We feel our readers will benefit from her unique story and be inspired by the courage she demonstrated during a deeply personal and painful experience:
“A few weeks ago my father passed away. He was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer about seven months ago, and he endured very aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatments. After his condition worsened, he decided to reach out to Hospice and let go.
During his painful journey, I spent as much time as possible with him. I applied essential oils on his feet and legs, gave him Reiki treatments, helped him get in more comfortable positions, and spent quiet time with him. When we spoke, we expressed our love and gratitude for each other. We also slipped in a few jokes here and there. My father’s sense of humor was outstanding throughout his ordeal with cancer.
The essential oils I used most with him were frankincense, Valor®, Peace & Calming®, lavender, PanAway®, peppermint and Deep ReliefRoll-On. I chose these oils for their relieving and calming properties. I would apply them to his feet, anywhere he was uncomfortable, and on his pillowcase so he could easily inhale them while he rested in bed. I can honestly say that every time I put the oils on him, he either told me or showed me that he got a little and sometimes a lot of relief from what he was feeling. He would also become less fidgety and feel calmer and more relaxed.
A few hours before my dad passed, the Hospice home caregiver and I gave him a sponge bath with warm water infused with Peace & Calming. Afterwards I anointed his whole body with frankincense. I believe these essential oils helped me remain calm and strong throughout this difficult process.
Fortunately, my whole family was with him when he died, and just moments before he took that last breath, he opened his eyes and looked at each one of us indicating that he knew we were there and that he loved us.
If you find yourself in difficult situations, may I suggest surrounding yourself with supportive friends and family, taking time to grieve, meditating and practicing restorative yoga, and, of course, using essential oils to help bring peace and calming as you go through this rite of passage.”
-Tracy Griffiths, RPP, RPE
We’re grateful to Tracy for her eloquent words and inspiring story. If Young Living’s essential oils have in someway touched your life or eased your burden, we hope you’ll feel comfortable sharing your experiences with the YL family.

Sacred Frankincense (Boswellia sacra)

Now From Young Living Distillery in Oman
Sacred Frankincense Essential Oil (Boswellia sacra) comes from the Boswellia sacra frankincense tree and is distilled at the Young Living distillery in Oman.
Boswellia carterii is also very therapeutic. Boswellia frereana is highly fragrant and is usually used for burning and fragrances and has little or no therapeutic value. Boswellia frereana belongs in the perfume industry.
Gary Young has spent 25 years learning and traveling to the countries where frankincense is harvested. He has spent this time learning from the very best so he can know which species of frankincense and other oils are of the highest therapeutic quality.

How to Protect your Family from Flu and Viruses with Thieves Oil
Young Living's Thieves essential oil blend was created based on the historical story of four thieves in Europe who protected themselves from the black plague with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing victims of the killer disease. When captured, they were offered a lighter sentence in exchange for their secret recipe. In modern days, these same herbs and essential oils have been found to be an effective barrier against topical and airborne microorganisms. Read More > >

I am so impressed with the new oil blend RutaVala. If you haven't tried it yet, I really encourage you to do so. It is wonderful for insomnia. I keep a bottle of it next to my bed and use before bedtime or if I wake up in the night and can't get back to sleep. It is so calming and relaxing. RutaVala is also good as an antidepressant. Inspecting Farms & Facilities to Insure Highest Quality Oils
Marc Schreuder, a lead researcher at Young Living, recently documented his trip with Gary Young to Madagascar.
As one of the world’s leading growers and distillers of aromatic plants for essential oils, Gary Young has long understood that guaranteeing oil quality is not just a matter of subjecting essential oils to analytical equipment; it starts with an intensive understanding of the collectors and growers of the herbs, inspecting fields, monitoring distillation, and collecting samples. This is why Gary Young has insisted on visiting and inspecting all farms and facilities providing essential oils to Young Living. Read More > >

Experience Amazing Benefits of True Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils
Therapeutic grade essential oils are extremely concentrated particularly when they have been derived through distillation, which is the most effective method of extraction. Because essential oils are so highly concentrated, most of them are at least 50 times more therapeutically potent than the herbs or plants they came from. When herbs are cut & dehydrated for therapeutic use, they can lose as much as 90% of the healing nutrients as well as the vast majority of the vital oxygen molecules. Not so with essential oils, which are many times more potent than dried herbs. Most of the essential oils you find in health food stores are so low in quality and full of adulterations, you would be shocked. Even essential oils labeled as "PURE" are not what they seem. There is a very big difference between the low quality essential oils and true therapeutic grade essential oils. Young Living Essential Oils is the World Leader in Essential Oils and have set the standard for purity and quality. Every batch of oils is rigorously tested by independent laboratories before being sold to customers. You are protected by Young Living's unconditional guarantee of purity and quality. To be able to certify completely the high grade of his oils, Gary Young has taken the ultimate step: he has developed his own farms and his own distillation techniques to guarantee the top quality he seeks. He has become a true pioneer in developing these operations in the United States. Young Living prides itself on promoting healthy living supplemented by essential oils. Connecting to the Earth Helps Create Abundance, part 1

May 19, 2011

Do you feel worried about your finances? Are you concerned with how you are going to pay your bills? Are you in debt? You can shift your state of being so that you can attract more wealth, create abundance, and reduce these types of stress.
As a bodywork therapy expert, I think it’s very important to take into account the connection between the body and mind, especially when you want to make changes in your life. Notice how your body feels as you read this article, paying attention to your hips and lower back.
I’d like to give you a little background information so you can understand how your body, mind, and emotions all connect to the chakras. Then I’ll offer a few Aroma Yoga® tips to help you shift into the vibration of prosperity with Young Living’s Abundance™ essential oil blend.
In yoga and many other energy-based healing arts modalities, we work with the chakras, a Sanskrit word that translated means “wheel” or “turning.” A chakra, or wheel of energy, is a center of activity that generates, assimilates, and expresses life-force energy, or prana.

The chakra system is a map of the subtle or energetic body. It is a diagram of where and how the body, mind, and emotions intersect. It also represents the evolution of the human psyche and our emotional and spiritual development.

Each chakra also has a designated sense, i.e., sense of sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. Most yogis and healing arts practitioners in the West primarily address the seven major chakras that are located along the central channel of the body, from the base of the spine to the top of the head.
The principles of Polarity Therapy, which stems from ayurvedic medicine, say that each chakra has a corresponding element: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. For this article, I will be discussing the first chakra, also known as the root chakra, which corresponds to the earth element.

The first chakra is associated with everything that has to do with our basic needs being met in order to survive, i.e., food, water, clothing, and shelter. The sense of smell corresponds to this chakra. Think about it: How do animals survive in the wild? They depend on their keen sense of smell to find their prey and avoid their predators. Of all of our senses, our sense of smell is the most developed when we are born, probably in order to identify our mother, our primary source of survival when we are infants.
In our culture, first chakra issues are about money, income, and feelings of security. The positive aspect of the first chakra is feeling safe and having trust; the negative aspect is feeling fear, having doubt, and not trusting.
Using Young Living’s Abundance essential oil blend can help us with first chakra issues. When I teach my Aroma Yoga classes, I share Abundance with students to create a sense of trust and security in the room. Its sweet, warming, and earthy blend is made up of myrrh, cinnamon bark, frankincense, patchouli, orange, clove, ginger, and spruce. It’s perfect for supporting the root chakra. Young Living’s founder, D. Gary Young, and his ability to create oil blends that are perfect for emotional support and balance astound me.
Here’s to your abundance for all good things!

Part 15: Finding Pure Essential Oils

January 27, 2011

Dr. Hervé Casabianca training Gary in new GC-MS techniques
7.
Can different distillation practices change the oil quality? Yes!
Commercial distilleries push process pressure over 5 pounds and up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, which fractures the molecules. This speeds up the extraction process, and yet they are still able to capture the top notes for the perfume industry. Their distilling time can be no more than 40 minutes.
Our distillation of lavender essential oil takes a minimum of 1 hour. When the commercial distilleries extract only for the purpose of the aroma such as for the perfumers, once the larger molecules come out, which are generally the fragrance compounds, the boiler is shut off because it burns 25 to 38 gallons of diesel fuel per hour at 5.50 Euros, which equals $7.36 a gallon, to retrieve maybe 1 or 2 percent more oil.
I have found after distilling oils on five continents around the world, above and below the equator, that most of the time the therapeutic molecules are some of the last molecules to come out, which may take 1½ to 3 hours more. For example, in our distillery in Spain, we use full-agitation to distill frankincense essential oil for 12 hours minimum. In Salalah, we use partial agitation and distill frankincense for 16 hours.
Agitation is a process that grinds the resin into coarse powder. It is similar to the agitation of the old-time washing machine, where the paddles move back and forth, beating the clothes. In this case, the paddles break down the resin, which is very gummy and will easily stick together, impeding the release of the oil. For this reason, the constant agitation is important to keep the powder from clumping at the bottom of the cooker. This agitation also ensures greater steam saturation for greater essential oil extraction as the steam travels up through the powdered resin.
Incensole acetate, which is a very important compound found in frankincense resin, only shows up after 11 hours of distilling with agitation and 15 hours without agitation. Incensole acetate is considered a major constituent, which is sought after to support many body functions. It works well as a companion to the boswellic acids in its medicinal attributes.

Part 10: Finding Pure Essential Oils

Part 10: Finding Pure Essential Oils

Omani frankincense tree

Many people have tried to enter the essential oil market and have no idea about what it takes to produce a pure therapeutic grade essential oil, what to look for in the chemistry profile, or even how to read a GC-MS analytical evaluation. They rely on a broker to tell them whether the essential oils they are buying are pure. You might as well buy from a used-car salesman.

Some companies proudly state that their Boswellia frereana is sourced in Oman. Unfortunately, that is just not true. This species of frankincense grows only in Somalia. In addition, there have been some exaggerated claims of how much boswellic acid or incensole acetate can be found in frereana. The truth is that neither of those compounds is found in frereana at all.

I prefer to back up my statements with peer-reviewed research from the Web site of the National Library of Medicine: www.pubmed.gov. A paper on frankincense research is available to you in a downloadable PDF if you click here. This paper will give you real, documented facts on three frankincense varieties: carteri, sacra, and frereana.

I can tell you that Young Living’s Boswellia carteri frankincense comes from East Africa. The Boswellia sacra that we sell as Sacred Frankincense is grown in Oman and distilled in my own distillery in Salalah, Oman. I studied the therapeutic properties of these two varieties of frankincense that are very rich in boswellic acid and incensole acetate and concluded that they offer the most benefits to consumers.

A Look at Young Living Therapeutic Grade, Part I

A Look at Young Living Therapeutic Grade, Part I

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Young Living members already know that Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ (YLTG) essential oils are the highest quality and most therapeutic. But achieving this high standard requires years of experience from experts like Gary Young, and results in part by farming and distilling many of our own essential oils. Even our four farms aren’t big enough to produce all the oils demanded by our customers, not to mention that some products only grow in unique, remote climate regions (i.e. frankincense only grows within specific areas of the Middle East). So to maintain YLTG standards—no matter where an essential oil is grown or distilled—our experts apply the lessons learned on Young Living farms to make personal, on-site visits across the globe, ensuring that partner growers and distillers meet our world-class standard.

Once the oils are sent to our research center in Spanish Fork, Utah, we determine which oils qualify for the YLTG requirements through a multi-step process that consistently delivers superior products. Part of this process involves scientific purity tests. The research center experts run every batch of essential oils through seven technical tests that determine if an oil qualifies to be a YLTG product.

The first test is called Gas Chromatography (often referred to as GC). The GC test measures the individual chemical components of an essential oil by sending samples through a metal tube. As the oil spirals around the tube, it begins to “flash off” or evaporate. The evaporation points of each chemical are measured and compared to the YLTG specification standard for that oil. If components of that oil don’t measure up, the entire batch is rejected. That’s good news for Young Living essential oil consumers, but bad news for unsuspecting buyers elsewhere. That’s because partner distillers who don’t meet the YLTG qualifications take their rejected oil and sell it to other essential oil companies with lower standards.

In future blog posts I’ll review the other six tests Young Living uses to qualify its YLTG essential oils. Knowing and understanding these purity tests will give you added confidence that Young Living truly is the world leader in essential oils.

What is the essential oil of Frankincense?

What is the essential oil of Frankincense?

Frankincense is considered the holy anointing oil in the Middle East and has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. It was well known during the time of Christ for its anointing and healing powers and was one of the gifts given to the Christ child. Frankincense was valued more than gold and only those with great wealth possessed it. Researchers today have discovered that the oil is high in Sesqueterpines, which helps stimulate the limbic system of the brain as well as the hypothalamus, pineal and pituitary glands. It is stimulating and elevating to the mind and helps in overcoming stress and despair, as well as supporting the immune system.

Richard and Shauna Dastrup Sha-Faun Enterprises LLC

Dr.Paul writes:

Hello Friends and Pet Lovers,

In keeping with the season I thought it would be appropriate to talk about the very special essential oil given to the Christ Child by the Wise Men-FRANKINCENSE. This oil has been researched and developed in modern day by Dr. Gary Young, one of the pioneers in the rebirth of essential oils in North America in the last 20 years.

Frankincense is steam distilled from gum/resin of the plant Boswellia carteri. This plant originated in Somalia, but is now grown and processed in North America. There are numerous biblical references to Frankincense over 52; some specific quotes are Exodus 30:34, Leviticus 2:1, and Leviticus 2:2.

Frankincense is also known as Olibanum or Oil from Lebanon. The actual name Frankincense is derived from the Medieval French word meaning real incense Having trouble with remembering the spelling? I always remember it as Frank-Incense.

This wonderful oil is considered as the holy anointing oil in the Middle East and has been used in

religious ceremonies for thousands of years. During the times of Christ it was used to treat every conceivable ill known to man and was well known for its anointing and healing powers. It was actually valued more than gold during ancient times, and only people with great wealth and abundance were able to possess it.

Today research has discovered that Frankincense helps to stimulate the center of emotions in the brain known as the limbic system. It also stimulates the Hypothalamus, known as the master gland of the body, which regulates the release of many hormones including thyroid hormone and the bodys own cortisone cortisol. Frankincense is being investigated in Europe for its ability to improve human growth hormone production.

Medical indications for Frankincense include the following: Asthma, depression, and gastric ulcers. It

helps stimulate and elevate the mind, and contributes to the bodys ability to overcome stress and despair.

It also is known to help the immune system. It has been used by many for help with allergies, insect and

snake bites, bronchitis, cancer, respiratory infections, headaches, herpes virus infections, high blood press, inflammation and stress. It is able to penetrate the blood brain barrier, which is believed to be responsible for much of its direct action on the brain. It enhances the activity of leukocytes, which assists in the bodys defense against infections.

In humans it is used to increase spiritual awareness and assist with meditation. It improves attitude, uplifts spirits thereby helping the immune system. Frankincense is one of my favorite oils. I use it topically daily on myself. I use it on many cancer patients, in topical ear products, and in any endocrine disorder such as hypothyroidism. It may be applied directly to the skin, or it may be diffused (nebulized) into a room. Heating Frankincense to aerosolize it into a room is NOT a good idea because heat destroys the molecular structure of the oil. Also, it is flammable.
Frankincense is special oil that seems to uplift spirits of both people and pets and may be diffused

into a room using a non-heating nebulizer to create a very peaceful and pleasant environment.

It may be used as a companion oil with virtually any other essential oil.

Yes, it is one of the most expensive oils I use in my practice, but I believe it really is a beneficial oil

in many medical cases.

I hope you all have a very joyous holiday season. Thank you all for your support this past year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Dr. Paul

Hello my fellow oilers,

I have 4 new testimonies on vision improvement for you and would also like to add that I used to wear glasses for distance. I was not trying to improve my vision so I can not say exactly what did it, but in my opinion it was the Young Living supplements and the oils. I do not go a day without them and everything in my life has improved. I have not worn glasses for several years now and that really makes me happy. Please feel free to improve your life in any way I can.

Dear YL Success Seekers,

Michael S. Lewis writes:

It is my pleasure to give my testimony. At birth there was complications which had led to blindness in both eyes, P.R. & M.D. in the right eye.

When I heard about the Young Living Oils I was willing to try anything. I started using Frankincense, one of the Young Living Oils by rubbing on my upper eye lids and back of my neck. Plus what enhanced it even more I used a hot pack for 15 minutes. It has been a miracle for me. In less than a week I started seeing light and color. It was six weeks later I was able to get my day time drivers license back. And to make even better I had help finding a part time job.

I want to give a big THANKS! to Young Living.

Dear oil people

Funny thing... I lost my eyeglasses for about 2 weeks. I have been using Wolfberry eye cream now going on 3 months. I found my eyeglasses and found that I did not need them anymore. I no longer get headaches from squinting as I had to before. That cream is the only thing I can contribute to me regaining my sight. I apply it to my eyelid as well as under my eye above the cheek bone in the tissue paper skin area...if you know what I mean. Peace,

Carol Mciloil

Dear Leanne and OIL Joyers,

I just got back from an appointment with a behavioral optometrist, who is an eye care professional who believes that vision can be healed, or at least improved, in many cases.

My prescription is so strong that I am weaning off my glasses with weaker prescriptions.

I am also using Frankincense, and many other oils.. A big part of behavioral optometry is relaxation of the eye through breathing and other exercises: recognition that the eyeball is a flexible organ that changes
shape as we look far or near. A fixed focal point prescription lens contributes to rigidity, and causes deterioration and strain.

To get to YLEO, relaxation and breathing equals MORE OXYGEN! Thats what EOs contribute! Also Vision takes place in the brain, not the eye itself, so that is where Frankincense and other high sesquiterpene oils play a part also, why consistent use of many oils may have the side effect of improving vision. Belief and choice for each of us also plays a role.

The man who wrote the Book on healing vision is Dr. Jacob Lieberman, title: Take off your Glasses and See. The book has an index of eye care professionals, and behavioral optometrists listed by state.

I am excited to go to an eye doctor who is telling me I can turn back the clock on my eyes. My eyes can get younger, at least as regards vision... It is a gradual process, and I am writing this so that I can share withyou how behavioral optometry, YLEO, and my inner vision will recreate my sight.

The Search for Health,Wellness from the Scripture.

Part Seven

The Journey to Sacred Frankincense

September 28th, 2010 I met with Sheikh Hamdan, head of one of the largest corporations in Salalah, with businesses in construction, financing, general trade, etc. The Hamdan Group also owns a private hospital. Sheikh

Hamdan and his son, Mr. Abdullah, are very interested in Young Livings frankincense venture in Oman and want to help us.

Sheikh Hamdan has worked as an overseer and coordinator of the people who harvest the frankincense resin in the Dhofar region. He also confirmed that he has not had any other American or anyone from Utah come to do research,

start a new business, nor investigate the Omani frankincense.

When I visited with the Minister of Agriculture, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Trade, and the Minister of Business Trade and Export, they confirmed that they had never met with any American, nor had an export permit been requested, irrespective of the fact that no codes existed for exportation of frankincense.

resin or oil.
It is sad that there is so much deception in the world of essential oils. Very few people have had enough experience to know what questions to ask, what to look for, or have paid the price to know the difference between

the resin species and to determine which of the five different grades they are and their quality. Why must the talk about this sacred oil be marred with the negative side of the essential oil industry that is about money and

power? Only those who are a part of that deception can answer that question.

For me, its name bears that meaning, and I feel blessed and privileged to be in the country of Oman to be a part of bringing Gods sacred frankincense to the world. Since March of 2010, Young Living has built two distilleries that are in operation six days a week in Salalah, Oman, and we are preparing to install a third one by 2011.

It is note worthy that the cancer rate in Oman is much lower than in other countries of the world. Mahmoud Suhail,M.D., our partner in the Omani frankincense venture, recently shared with me the latest disease statistics for Oman. Out of a population of almost three million, the total number of malignancies in Oman in 2008 was 1,992,with total deaths of 194. The population of the United States is 305 million, and in 2009 there were 1,479,350 cases of cancer with 562,000 deaths.

Dr. Suhail wrote, “This means during 2008 and per every 10,000 population, 7 got cancer in Oman, while 48.5 got cancer in the United States.” Thats 6.9 times more cancer in the U.S. than in Oman! Because the cancer rate is so low in Oman, there are no oncology wards in the Omani hospitals in the Dhofar region.

Interestingly enough, the Omani people, unfortunately, have many factors that favor or promote cancer such as smoking, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, low exercise levels, and bad food habits. But they’re doing

something right. Could it be that their use of frankincense has had its impact in the prevention of cancer? Some Omanis believe that their cancer-free life is a result of burning the frankincense resin and chewing it daily.

The Boswellia sacra frankincense that was taken to the Christ Child–the holy anointing oil–the sacred frankincense–has been found to carry very high if not the highest sesquiterpene levels, highest boswellic acids, highest D.R.C. DNA-repair capacity, and highest anti-cancer properties in the world. After 15 years of planning and preparation, this highly prized, ancient oil is now available only from Young Living, the World Leader in Essential Oils. I am proud that we have the two finest species of frankincense in Young Living–Boswellia carterii and now, our new addition, Boswellia sacra.

With respect and admiration for those who seek the truth, I offer my best wishes for a day of discovery and learning, a day of truth.
Essential Yours,D. Gary Young

Why the Search for Health and Wellness from the Past?

Why the Search for Health and Wellness from the Past?

Part Five – The Journey to Sacred Frankincense

I was excited to find Boswellia frereana in the marketplace in Cairo. This species was known as The King of Frankincense because ancient royalty desired to possess it because of its sweet perfume fragrance. However, when Dr. Farag and his students analyzed it, they found that the main compounds responsible for healing and regeneration were not present.

It was most interesting that the frankincense taken out of King Tutankhamuns tomb resembled the frankincense species of sacra or carterii, not frereana. All the legends from ancient prophets indicate that sacra or carterii were the only species used to anoint and heal. Frereana was never used.

The frankincense from the Hadhramaut was the most desired, because the crystal-like resin drops called hojari come from there, which is the highest grade of frankincense known to exist. In the studies of the ancient world, it is accepted knowledge that the frankincense taken to the Christ Child came from present-day Oman–the Boswellia sacra hojari–the Sacred Frankincense. This is history! These are the facts!

It is amazing to me how people can make claims out of thin air with absolutely no knowledge or experience to back them up. People who have never traveled or conducted research pretend to be experts by copying and parroting other peoples research and literature, or they simply make up their own story.

When frereana came on the market about two years ago, distributors asked me over and over again why Young Living did not have frereana from Oman. My answer has always been the same. First, frereana does not come from Oman. Second, frereana is double the price of carterii because the perfume companies have a monopoly on it. Third, it is inferior in that it is not meant for healing but for perfume. To be sold for a lower price, it cannot be of a pure and natural origin, as has been verified by a gas chromatogram analysis GC perform by the Central Service Analytical Laboratories in Lyons, France, the number one analytical laboratory for essential oils in the world.\
Study Shows Powerful Boswellic Acids Lacking in Boswellia frereana

Although the LC/LC/ESI-MS analysis of frankincense from B. frereana revealed peaks corresponding to the retention times of the boswellic acids 1–6; Fig. 3E, this gum-resin obviously does not contain appreciable amounts of the boswellic acids 1–6 which is in accordance with the results obtained by Mathe et al. They did not find any of the boswellic acids 1–6 in a botanically certified gum-resin of B. frereana with HPLC/UV at 210 nm. Emphasis added.

Health and wellness from the Bible.

Part Two – The Journey to Sacred Frankincense.

My head was spinning, trying to figure out what this was all about and what I was going to do, since it appeared that my first opportunity to be in Egypt looked like it was headed for disaster. I so wanted to know why Christ, as a child, fled to Egypt, since I am sure there were other places he could have gone. What was the frankincense story all about? I had hoped to discover why frankincense was found in Tutankhamuns tomb when it was opened by Howard Carter in 1922.

Why was Christ the only child recorded in historical writings to receive frankincense, myrrh, and gold at his birth? Yet, even that was shrouded with mystery as the definition in the Sabaic Dictionary, published by the University of Sana a in 1982, states: Gold, a type of incense. That was a clue to something new that really piqued my interest.

Historically, at that time, incense was far more prized than gold. If frankincense and myrrh were given as precious gifts, why would gold, a much lesser commodity, be given as well? How did frankincense and myrrh equate to gold? As I started putting together what I had learned with what had been written, it just did not make sense.

Through my research and in asking questions in that part of the world, I learned that balsam oil was anciently called liquid gold. That seemed to be common knowledge in the Arabian world. So then I had to ask myself, Did the translator leave out the word liquid because it did not seem important, or was it simply not understood? I was fascinated with it all and was driven to find the truth.
